MV KENDRICK eh... If i'm not wrong, it served as an undersea communication-cable layer (Mercent Vessel - MV.) before being partially converted for submarine rescue operations, with the introduction of the Challenger Class SSK into RSN's force structure.

Kenderick does not carry a dedicated submarine rescue vehicle. It does carry a ROV to deploy the ELSS pods (as stated in the MINDEF website). Guess where the submarine rescue vehicle will come from in times of need (although it should never be needed).
Note the unusual arrangement of carrying the hyperbaric chamber on another ship.

I'm no expert, could someone explain in brief how the ELSS pod enters the submarine without compromising the hull and flooding the interior? Could not find any info on it in Ocean Technology.
Torpedo tubes? Or the torpedo reload doors?
Another question, considering the depth around this region, isn't a submarine evacuation suit sufficient for the crew to eject from torpedo tubes as opposed to a rescue sub?
I thought I saw a picture of Kendrick with a heli-deck at the bow.

Mine gussed that it would be anywhere where the ELSS canister can be properly inserted (Diameter Wise)..., be it the torpedo tubes or the Trash Disposal Unit (TDU)...???

You meant through the Rescue/Escape Trunk...??? But anyway, Steinke Hoods/Submarine Escape Immersion Ensemble suits can only be used from DISSUB in depths down to a maximum of 137-183 meters.
Any deeper, DSRVs with a maximum operating depths of 1524 meters (For USN DSRV 01 & 02) would be required. As a comparison, Atmospheric Pressure Diving Suits (ADS) and Submarine Rescue Chamber (SRC) both has a maximum operating depth of 610 meters (ADS) and 260 meters (SRC) respectively.

Thanks for the info and the link to the rescue chamber.

ELSS pods are supposed to help provide emergency life support stores (eg oxygen candles) to the stranded submarine (DISSUB) while awaiting rescue. Normally, it takes time to get the submarine rescue effort ready, so you need to provide additionsl stores to the DISSUB while it wait for rescue. ELSS pods dont enter the submarine from torpedo tube. There is normally an escape tower build into the modern submarine. This is essentially a double hatch compartment whereby you can pressurise/depressurise. You flood the tower, open the outer hatch, drop the ELSS pods into it, then closed it. Drain off the water, open the inner hatch and then get the ELSS.
ELSS pods can get in from escape tower, submariners can get out from it too. You need not use torpedo tubes. However, free ascent can only be achieved safely at a certain depth even with suits. Once at the surface, if there is no decompression chamber, you can suffer from pressurisation sickness and die. So, you do not attempt free ascent lightly.
I do not think Kenderick has a helideck. The LST (carrying the decompression chamber) will provide the heli cap.

ST Engineering wins S$400m contract from Singapore NavyPosted: 14 March 2007
SINGAPORE : Singapore Technologies Engineering has won a S$400 million contract from the Republic of Singapore Navy.
The contract is to provide a ship and submarine rescue system and maintenance services.
The contract will be split 60:40 between its unit ST Marine and its British partner, James Fisher Defence.
The first part of the contract is to design and build a fully-integrated ship and submarine rescue system.
The system comprises a Submarine Support and Rescue Vessel and Submarine Rescue Vehicle.
ST Marine will build the vessel locally while its partner will build the rescue vehicle in the United Kingdom.
The second part of the contract is to operate and maintain the system over 20 years.
Design of the vessel will begin immediately with construction expected to start in the third quarter.
The 20-year services contract will begin in two years when the vessel and vehicle have been completed and integrated into a submarine rescue system.
The partners will set up a 50:50 joint venture company for this contract. - CNA/ms

Building a glorified sub tender ain't much of a technological transfer .....
Too bad ST isn't getting a shot ar the DSRV itself

Navy temporarily loses contact with sub Wed Mar 14, 11:01 AM ET
NORFOLK, Va. - The Navy temporarily lost communication with a submarine off Florida's coast and sent ships and aircraft to search for the USS San Juan before the vessel was contacted early Wednesday, military officials said.
ADVERTISEMENT There were no problems with the Los Angeles class sub, based in Groton, Conn., and the Navy was investigating the incident, the Naval Submarine Force said in a statement.
Units of the USS Enterprise Carrier Strike Group saw a red flare in the area where the sub was operating off the coast of Jacksonville, Fla., Tuesday night, said spokesman Phil McGuinn.
The Navy immediately started searching and also contacted the International Submarine Escape and Rescue Liaison Office in Norfolk to assist with the efforts. Family members of those on board also were notified.
"Fortunately, the submarine established communications in the early morning hours ... and indicated that there were no problems; hence, units were able to stand down from the search and rescue that was already well under way," the Navy said in a release.

Just add in Spidey pix here:

And a bit on James Fisher products:
LinkSo will we be getting the older LR5 submersible vehicle or the latest NATO Submarine Rescue System (NSRS) ?

This is old news but for completeness have posted it. Super spartan ROV, which was used on the kendrick, not to be confused with Spartan ROV...
