have seen this japanese movie on yamato sometime back in 2006.... quite a touching story...no so much of people dying...or blown to pieces...but the human aspects of the japanese sailors how they face war and death and surviving the war when most of your buddies were dead....

Ah Tiong War movies I watched in the eighties'
1) 高山下的花环 ( Wreaths at the foot of Mountain ) Sino - Vietnam War 1979
2) 血战台儿庄 ( Battle of Tai Er Zhuang ) WW2
3) 闪电战士 ( Lighting warrior ) Sino - Vietnam , lots of artillery shelling scenes, enjoyed the final part when the hero used finger GIRL to comms to friendly for arty counter fire.
