Title: RSAF F-15SG roll-out
ChineseJunk - November 2, 2008 10:27 PM (GMT)
I'm now in the US. Saw the F-15SG this morning in St Louis. It's mind blowing.
Viper52 - November 2, 2008 10:56 PM (GMT)
Fantastic! Looking fwd to more pics! Thanks for sharing B)
ChineseJunk - November 2, 2008 11:35 PM (GMT)
Took walk-rounds as per requests from other milnuts (namely kwek for his one-day-will-build Revell 1/48 F-15E Strike Eagle kit).
There are new lumps and bumps aft and elsewhere........... but will not post these for the time being. Maybe after the SG is displayed in public.....
Standard F-15E model kit needs some modification cos of the add-ons.
Roll-out ceremony is tomorrow (Nov 3) St Louis time. Any special requests please ask in the next 12 hours. We are 14 hours behind.
*snip* Yes, the insignia is really that big. Kind of like using a 1/48 decal on a 1/72 kit.

Going to be cold in Chicago this time of the year. Have fun CJ. Oh, and thank you for the pics.
Just googled the story behind U505, sounds fascinating.
Air capable ships eh, something we should know about?
pirate - November 3, 2008 12:42 AM (GMT)
What has mindef been feeding you with while over there? I had KFC for a start :P Weather still sucks, stuck in hotel now.
Viper52 - November 3, 2008 12:51 AM (GMT)
CJ, would appreciate a set of the walkaround piccies as well, if I may B)
I presume the first birds be going to the Buccaneers?
I'll watch this space about the helo carriers, I hope your blurb about that and the U-505 doesn't mean we're going back to the Bogue- or Casablanca-class

Sure does look like him. Hey CJ i thought u had a new job now??
Anyway, is it true what the papers said about our F15's having comformal tanks as well?
YourFather - November 3, 2008 12:39 PM (GMT)
Both F-15Cs and F-15Es have CFTs. With the SG evolved from the E and very similar to the K (which has CFTs), why would there not be CFTs on the SG? ;)

Hellos,
Yes, am still with Genting's Sentosa IR doing crisis comms. I'm the odd one out in this group, the only non-journalist/Mindef staff officer. :)
Yes, the F-15SGs have CFTs and all the bells and whistles, and then some.
Am leaving for the roll-out ceremony in about an hour. Very excited.
CAF arrived over the weekend.

Actually no surprise there. The F-15E had conformal fuel tanks all along, and that was what attributed it its long legs. The F-15SG / F-15K had to have CFTs as well.

Actually i was asking how come the papers put the tanks on the top of the plane when it's supposed to be under the wings next to the engine intakes?
YourFather - November 3, 2008 04:00 PM (GMT)
CJ not there to do QC anymore mah.

There are always some people who can't tell the difference between under and over. You take that up to them, they will just tell you that when the airplane rolls inverted, it will be "over."

Are you talking about the Typhoon? AFAIK/IIRC, a T/O run of 300m is possible with A2A loadouts.
Here's a video, with rotation in around 5 - 6 seconds after brakes release.

Maybe they mixed up Typhoon and Tornado?
Don't think the Tornado can take off in 300m though.

"The swing-wing swing-role jet can take off from runways as short as 300m".
Problem solve. :P

Anybody?
f14dtomcat - November 4, 2008 10:30 AM (GMT)
Lucky you, CJ, that you visited the F-15 factory in St. Louis and with pictures to boot! I visited the Boeing factory in Seattle last year and came away disappointed. I was hopping mad because there were two 787s under construction sitting pretty on the factory floor, but no photography was allowed.
I'd planned to build an F-15E in 72nd. scale in IAF desert camo scheme, but after seeing our RSAF's easier to paint all gray scheme, maybe........just maybe. And load it with amraams, winders and kick ass LGBs.
Despite all the noise and hot flatulence made by the MiG and Sukhoi crowd, the 15's timeless and classic design has evolved into this lethal strike variant of a Very capable and battle proven bird.
I can't wait to see it perform a full afterburner scramble, perhaps at the 2012 PLAB Open House.
YourFather - November 4, 2008 10:46 AM (GMT)
The MINDEF link is now updated with a newsclip, showing the F-15SG in flight testing.
(It's a pity the F-15SG wasn't unveiled with a loadout like the F-15K. Where's the JDAMs lining the CFT? Show some JSOWs!)

http://boeingmedia.com/imageDetail.cfm?id=...ec806847745d2a7from this picture, an extra sensor was added to the tail section, a bit different from the slam eagle
Viper52 - November 4, 2008 11:24 AM (GMT)
Plus there seems to be something on the fuselage below the rear cockpit (above the intake). Correct me if I'm wrong, the SLAM Eagle doesn't have that
