hi guys,

rediscovered the UN arms register recently, and found that we bought K-1A carbines, K-3 LMG, and K-4 AGL in 2008

wonder which unit received them...

wierd

enough weaps to outfit a BN...for what?

maybe it's to tear apart and inspect for use to upgrade the SAR-21 carbine, the SAR-21 SAW and a new CIS40 AGL.

is this a list of weapons "imported" in the trade sense and not necessarily destined for the SAF?

Joe Black - August 11, 2009 03:35 AM (GMT)
I wonder if SOF in SAF gets to choose their own weapons?

What is conspicuously absent is no 2nd batch yet to add on to the 1st 12 UN-reported MY Astros in 2002.

where is our f-15sg?

bdique - August 11, 2009 05:58 AM (GMT)
unless we are zhng-ing them for other pple? Indonesia uses the K-1a, and Phillippines uses the K-3...btw is the K-4 just a licensed produced copy of the Mk19?

Maybe its for Timor Leste to built up its forces.....

1st one only came into mountain home in 2009. SG reports on import into SG basis ie the F-15SG are still in US so it won't be included just yet.

But having said that, US hasn't published its 2008 numbers yet so it may have been delivered early.

I believe this is to be the case where Singapore is only the mid-point where the weapons will eventually end up in some other countries as its quite unrealistic for Singapore to operate other weapons of such quantities.

I am just puzzled as to why the website did not indicate the final destination of the weapons.

bdique - August 12, 2009 02:02 AM (GMT)
i guess UN does not demand accountability to that extent...if south korea exports it, then they report it...its not SK's perogative to know what SG is going to do with those arms...

actually for the weapons exporter they need to see the end user cert. of course this can be falsified which is why some dealers only accept legitimate purchases, while others choose to run the risk of being arrested for gun running ;p

Can falsify but can't get through SG customs.

All such goods including transhipment are covered under strategic goods (control) order.

Can't re-export/tranship without permit from govt. No permit, no transhipment.

Maybe we were assisting the Mynammar Junta in importing arms for them?

weasel1962 - August 12, 2009 03:35 AM (GMT)
Definitely not Myanmar wrt MGs.

1) China MGs are cheaper and direct export easy (via land route some more)
2) SG would prefer to sell its own arms. Why help sell other country's arms?
3) With all the focus on Myanmar, only a dumb idiot will sell arms to Myanmar now.

Personally, I don't think singaporeans in general are that dumb.

"importing" does not mean the cargo have to physically touch our port. weasel clearly is not a gun runner :P
