Mr. Brown apparently is also a seafood (sotong), Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces is an appointment, not a rank. No wonder he is a neng-tiao-pua.
Also people fail to realise that the SAF actually knows what it is talking about. I quote "The brochure says the two-and-a-half crabs are men who have been tapped for higher appointment." is exactly that, the "braid" is actually seaweed which is very healthy and nutritious for crabs, hence when the two crabs are given a seaweed, you bet they will soon be able to climb much higher ;@)
Of course there will also be the cynical ones who choose to interpret the seaweed as meaning "jiak-cao" (eat grass) which mean the two crabs will have to hentak kaki on their 16 legs :ph43r:

Very funny.
Personally, I would have gone for a 4-crab rank, then do a massive exercise of promoting the 3-crabs which would have made a lot of people happy. Senior colonels definitely is less of a mouthful. The seaweed thing is confusing. Indeed with 4-crab, 1 star would be bigger than 4 crab compared to 3 crab currently so the gens also happy wat.

As late as 2004/5, I know some units still gave out PFC ranks. It's just a single chevron without the "cap" of the LCP.

that's right, the original LCP is a single ikan bilis, then I saw one with umbrella covering the ikan bilis, but didn't know what rank it is. I have also lost count of how many training shed my ikan bilis and jeem was hiding under.

PFC ranks are still given out, mainly to certain people in rifle coys while those in HQ coys usually skip that rank. At least that was what I saw in my unit.
CFC ranks are rare, only reserved for certain individuals whom the commanders feel have gone above and beyond their duty. Promotion to CFC requires a recommendation letter from superior and rank will only be awarded a few months before ORD.

I've not seen a single PFC in my entire tenure, from Tekong to Nee Soon to Gedong to Stagmont.
CFCs are also pretty rare, except for Nee Soon, where they are apparently a dime a dozen.
