Milan-2010
http://news.rediff.com/report/2010/feb/09/...c-taskforce.htm"Milan-2010 is a joint exercise. We are looking at a joint task force against piracy in the region in which all these nations can contribute," Australian patrol boat HMAS Glenelg's Commanding Officer Lt Cdr Shane Doolin said, when asked about the future roadmap for Milan.
Apart from the Australian ship, the event witnessed participation of Bangladeshi offshore patrol vessel BNS Kapatakhaya, Malaysian patrol vessel RMN KD Perak, Myanmarese Corvette UMS Anawrahta, Thailand's patrol anti-submarine warship Longlom, Indonesian Mall Corvette KRI Imam Bonjol, Sri Lankan offshore patrol vessel SLNS Samudura and Singaporean mine sweepers RSS Katong and Punggol.

bdique - February 13, 2010 12:08 AM (GMT)
curious! how will minesweepers play a role in anti-piracy? but I'm happy for them, for it gives them experience :)

Well organised pirates lay IMD - Improvised Mine Device?
Wocelot - February 13, 2010 02:32 AM (GMT)
I think you need a Al-Qaeda capability to lay a improvised sea mine. Sea mines are a totally different dynamics from landmines...
bdique - February 13, 2010 02:44 AM (GMT)
for all you know i could be reading too much, and they were just there to host boarding parties, and to give their skippers 'combat' experience :P

Pack something in with enough explosive and it is enough to punch a hole in the side of a destroyer, from IEDs in the form of floating trash bag to semi-submerged shipping container with up to 20 tons capacity.

interesting, no american participation and/or observers ? and i thought the pacific was their backyard.

there might be observers, but since its hosted by India it would be more of an Indian Ocean thing, so maybe a lesser backyard?

Simbex-10 concludes.
http://www.newkerala.com/news/fullnews-90412.html1 formidable (intrepid) and victory class corvette with 7 Indian ships + 1 sub. Indian ships include 1 rajput class ddg, 3 corvettes (2 tarantul, 1 kora class), a bangaram class patrol vessel, 1 polnocny class lct and 1 replenishment ship.

This level of access for bloggers here in Singapore, zero.
Even during the Army Open House 2009, one of the warrant officer threatened to beat up photographers for taking photos. I'm not making this up.
This is on the wrong ball hat of the seven thinking hat.

It is really weird considering that the camp is open to the public and thus the name Army Open House. Vehicles have been on display and no cameras or camera phones are forbbiden so why cannot take pictures?
This is exactly why i think that the Buffalo recovery vehicle pic can be posted here on the other thread as it is already been 'cleared' to appear in public, in broad daylight literally!

Clucking bell!
I was working behind the scenes in AOH 07, and even though I was not part of the group dealing with public relations we were all instructed to show deference to civilians to the point of bowing and scraping.
I don't know whats up with some of these regulars...

You are a witness and as long as you are willing to make a statement to the effect he said those things, it is proof. And if someone else heard it too and is willing to make the same statement, there is verification of what you say.
No need to be shy. Post details and shame that person.

Lets put a good light also to the organsiers. I went to AOH 2009 but I encountered very professional customer service. The NS boys are very polite, couterous, warm & helpful. I stuck up several warm conversations with many of them. I was not stopped from doing anything at all. I even roam up to the SISPEC canteen to the e-Mart which is out of the exhibit area.
Anyway u have not share with us what is the object you are trying to take? :D
