Wocelot - March 21, 2010 02:04 PM (GMT)
Check your PM.

It is always saddening to see your KFC becomes an upgraded SFI meal. But I love NE shows better, got free bread ... :D

xtemujin - March 21, 2010 02:11 PM (GMT)
Hope that there will be the Isuzu pickup trucks.

I wonder will the HIMARS be here for the NDP 2010.

Alfie007 - March 21, 2010 02:14 PM (GMT)
Thanks Wocelot..

Aiyah, I'm always thankful there's food to eat.. hehe.. Have been eating the same thing since my first NDP participation in 1995 but the quality of SFI lunch & dinner improved over the years.. :D

Will provide update in time to come..

Right now, the info I get is very limited.. The POCs of every contingent will usually be briefed by P&C committee not to reveal too much to friends & persons from the media as they once said "the news worthy element of surprise will be gone", before they invite the media for NDP Media updates.. Will update ya when I start to mingle with the officers & enciks.. I'm not contingent POC this year..

Ah...

missed those days when I was an NDP usher during my poly days. Those KFC, Pizza hut lunch and dinners.

SFI packs were okay, but hey, they were given out free, so what the heck...just take! :D

Also missed those chocolate cream crackers they used to give out...

How I give for another shot at NDP...

I see.. If you're a participant, they will have a "buffet" setup including cafe style coffee/tea at our holding area for us prior to moving out to the FUP on the show days only.. :D

blowpipe - March 22, 2010 06:14 AM (GMT)
Do they served SFI food during NDP? I was involved in the following NDP, eat KFC all the way. :D

NS
1997
1998

Poly Days
2000 (usher )
2001 (usher )
2002 (usher )

FIVE-TWO - March 22, 2010 06:27 AM (GMT)
I ended up with both my NS NDP on overseas exercise.

Now the food serving is alternate.. If this week is KFC/Pizza Hut for lunch, then next week is SFI.. For the Combined Rehearsals (CR) onwards where there will be lunch & dinner, if it's KFC for lunch, then dinner shall be SFI & vice-versa.. Vegetarian food are separated from the rest..

Hmmm, I don't remember seeing SFI in the 1990s..

I was involved in the following years (uniformed group)
1995 & 1997 (parade participant) --> Yup KFC all the way..
1999 (first aid duty coverage)
2005 (contingent commander) --> Got KFC/Pizza Hut/SFI..
2006 & 2007 (contingent OIC/POC)
2009 (trainer)

Black Aces - March 22, 2010 09:51 AM (GMT)
Seems like this Year's NDP is a combination of '1st-time' display for some items and a 'Last-time' display for some items.

Grab your cameras ready...as you may see the last NDP flight of an a/c type.

Whether at the floating platform (since 2007) or Padang (once every 5 years), there are umpteen Combined Rehearsals that the public can watch and photograph freely.

This is unlike the National Stadium days when CRs took place out of sight within the stadium and you had to be really creative to see what's going on inside.

What "element of surprise" is he talking about? I hope he doesn't plan his military operations the way he manages the element of surprise for his media press conferences. Is he from PAFF?

The 90 cents paper will still cover NDP even if the whole of Singapore knows how the show will unfold. Remember the Pledge Moment in 2009? A single moment at the Floating Platform became a nation-wide event.

Thankfully the NDP Exco Chairman from 2007 onwards didn't think this way and that was how we got our sneak peeks from NDP'07 onwards... Amin. :)

Alfie007 - March 22, 2010 10:52 AM (GMT)
Hi CJ,

It should be in 2007 when COL Lim from RSAF was then P&C chairman.. He is a nice person to talk to, though.. At the NDP 2007 Appreciation Gathering (at RSAF Chongpang Camp), he told me in person that he would be moving on to handling media matters..

During initial brief (end Feb or early Mar) for contingent OICs, we were given notes on what to expect in NDP for the year, a summary of "firsts", manpower requirements, medical support plans, parade form-up diagram in detail, the sequence of events & so on.. Apart from the so-called "element of surprise" thingy reserved for NDP Media updates, I recall another reason given for it was that the info revealed to us at that point of time were still in the "concept" stage which would be subjected to changes after trials, so that was emphasised to us..

Yeah, as long as the venue is at the Padang or Marina, it's free show.. :D

bdique - March 22, 2010 11:12 AM (GMT)
well damn Alfie, you are well connected :P

thanks for the heads up, I hope I can free up some time...reminds me of when I was usher for NDP06 as part of my NSF days...

ChineseJunk - March 22, 2010 01:01 PM (GMT)

He's from Signals leh.

I bet a good place to watch the fly past rehearsals would be the Marina Bay Sands SkyPark.

will the skypark be open by then? if so, I hope that top-down shots of the flypast helos will be possible :P

Alfie007 - March 22, 2010 01:17 PM (GMT)
I've just checked my NDP 2007 appointment certificate to see the P&C chairman's name.. He was then COMD Air Defence Brigade, LTC Lim Kok Siong, holding the position of NDP'07 P&C Chairman, now a COL.. Paiseh, think I got his English name wrong, sorry bad at remembering names, got mixed up this COL Lim with COL Darius Lim.. I was so used to calling him Sir yet he call me by my name when he sees me at every rehearsal back then.. And correction, he's now Director of Nexus..

If milnuts outing gonna shoot the birds at the Skypark, then:

1. No chance for me to meet you guys as I will be at ground zero.. <_<

2. How about the mobile column?? very far leh..

I don't recall seeing Milo van in every NDP that I was involved in, maybe it was there just that I might be too busy to notice while rushing to attend briefings, debriefs & checking if any of my personnel report sick at medical post.. In NDP 2006, the Milo van was situated near our FUP outside National Stadium, each time I walk past, surely drink 5 cups.. :P In recent years including last year, the NDP P&C's refreshment sub-committee provided chilled plain water & sometimes mixed with isotonic syrup.. I'm very thankful for it..

Edit: I've confirmed with my junior officer that Milo van was around last year..

I won't be surprised the SkyPark (if open) would be so filled to capacity that MBS people have to turn away many among the public. Also I expect there would be some kind of tie up with the F&B outlets up there where the public would have to spend to have the privilege of that bird's eye view of the NDP proceedings. There is no free lunch, er, dinner :D

Loads and loads of the Milo Pre-Mix, H20 and plenty of ice.

Shaken and stirred varies.

possibly they use the autralian or the singapore-made australian version which is much more chocolatey then the "normal" ones.

every beverage company tweaks their formula for specific market region. if you go to Malaysia or other Malay dominant markets, the Milo is much more sweeter because they have a sweet tooth. In Australia it is much less sweet with more chocolate taste.

dtwn - March 24, 2010 06:35 AM (GMT)
^ Australian ones for me. The Malaysian/Singapore versions taste diluted for me.

When do dress rehearsals begin?

You can find the rehearsal schedule in the first post..

Rehearsal Type:
Internal Training (not listed in the schedule) - Own training at contingent level, assisted by SAF trainers, must have at least 3 training sessions before going for MCR
MCR - Marching Contingent Rehearsals (for supporting contingents or SC for short)
GOH/CP - Separate training for GOH & Colours Party (CP)
CCR - Combined Ceremonial Rehearsals (GOH/CP & SC) - it's usually full dress for the last few CCRs
CR - Combined Rehearsals (full dress)

Edit: The above is the list of rehearsals for parties involved in the ceremonial segment before combining with the show segments, etc in the CRs.. Parties involved in show segments & others will have their own respective rehearsal schedule before coming together for the CRs..

Keep your eye on roads in Tuas.

Thanks for the shots, bro.. Any idea when is the next PGS practice??

Have checked with my friend who attended a parade brief.. So far no mention of what are the flypast formations, aircraft types or number of aircraft involved in the air participation, only mentioned about the staple fighters bomb burst.. No mention of whether HIMARS be involved in the mobile column as yet.. Guess only time (& eyes) will tell..

My next internal training session is on 10.04.10 at Khatib Camp..

No idea about the next PGS practice.

Yes, saw a few interesting vehicles on Peck Tiong Choon trailers these past few days.

Cheers.

Will the Seahawks UH-60B be part of this years fly by? Looks like the SAF's TrailBlazer mine clearing can join the rolling parade for the 1st time.
