I stand to be corrected, but I seem to recall that RSAF sent a Skyhawk (or 2) for one of the earliest LIMAs. And a couple of LIMAs back there might have been a Fokker 50.
Last year was the first RSAF flying display at LIMA though.
xtemujin - April 4, 2010 04:07 PM (GMT)
I'm not too sure bro. Maybe the more experienced and senior can shed some light.
Cheers.

was driving last thursday when i spotted a F15 SG landing. wanted to take a picture but i couldnt because i didnt have a proper camera (iphone is next to useless) and was driving. its beautiful, its huge and its paint job is unlikely any other. dark grey almost black but still definitely a shade of grey.

you will know where the runway alignment is, simply by looking for the approach lights which is housed in the centre divider of the road. there is a similar set on the other side along old Tampines Road.
however I wonder if one stands around that area with a "proper" camera, whether you might should be visited by police or RSAF security.

Standing out in the open within sight of PLABs perimeter with a big-ass camera, big-ass lens? You most certainly will.
I can assure you, my F-15SG pic was not taken within walking distance (in SG’s climate anyway) of PLAB’s perimeter B)

Five-Two,
One may get an invitation for tea at ISD or maybe nearer (i.e. Paya Lebar Guard House) - either forcefully or to show up at a later date. You must also be prepared to receive them at your home (to reciprocrate their invitation mah), though they may show up suddenly, and at odd hours. :-0
Mods: I suggest that the post with the map be deleted to avoid unnecessary attention from the watchdogs who are monitoring the internet, including this forum.

Stars, have edited your post.
To all, please remember that in this current security climate, hanging within sight of a military installation, much less with cameras, is definitely NOT a good idea. You might be just intending to snap photos of planes, but your location/equipment could easily be misconstrued and bring a whole heap of hassle upon yourself.
As regards to posting information about locations, I understand that any yahoo with access to Google Earth, Google Maps or even a humble street directory could find out the information which has been removed, but lets not make MN the source of that information, shall we?
Thank you all for understanding.

Right right. I'm sorry. I figured that most guys here would be keen to grab shots of the F 15sg, just thought it would benefit them by sharing a potentially good spot for shots.
I understand if you delete the map but surely the verbal description of the location is fine ? It's quite a busy spot actually, plenty of people and industrial activities going on nearby on a regular basis. There's even a massive lot of unregistered commercial vehicles nearby. I would venture that, security wouldn't be compromised given the sheer amount of eyes and people in that area

I would like to recommend another place where perhaps you can take great shots of all planes flying into PLAB.
My previous office was located near MacDonald's Kallang and there is this overhead bridge (across Mountbatten Road) adjacent to the Geylang River and apparently, the sky above is the landing approach flight path to PLAB.
Standing on the overhead bridge or even atthe foot of the bridge, one can get shots of variety of aircraft (slow speed, gears down, lights on). I have seen the G550 CAEW (on 2 occasions) on approach, RSAF KC-135, Chinooks, Apache, Colibris, PLA residents of F-5, C-130s and other resident F-16s and visiting USAF/USN F-15Cs & Es, F-16s, SuperHornets (then from SA2010).
For those who drive, you can even park your car at the McDonald's carpark while you unload your gear and have your meals there too?
The only worst part is the waiting, but then no one can charge you for unauthorise entry into military premises or for loitering around!

^ that's the bridge by the petrol kiosk?

If you're referring to the bridge infront of the petrol kiosk or infront of Blk 3 Tanjong Rhu estate, nope this is not the bridge, the bridge that I referring to is within sight of this bridge.
If you can find the Geylang River and the nearby Singapore Sports Council premises, you can find the overhead bridge that I'm referring to easily.

Ooh, okay, got it.
Thanks.

Yes, the transports/tankers tend to have the RSAF roundel on the wings but not the fighters.
The E-2Cs also carry them on the wings. Not sure about the G550s though, too lazy to check online photos at the moment... :P

Any particular reason why? Maybe these planes are slower so visual identification is possible and applicable thus more roundels?

IMO, It will be good if this can be standardised throughout the aircraft fleet..

Yes, but i have no idea which part of the armour did they retrieve the metal plates from. The texture of the plates make the exhibit very nice.
