People's Defence Force
The People's Defence Force initially epitomized Singapore's resolve to take charge of its own defences in the early years of independence.[citation needed] Since then it has grown, and today 2 PDF is responsible for the 24/7[citation needed] protection of key installations and for coordinating military resources to assist Homefront agencies in civil emergencies, with the HQ manned round the clock to provide an effective and efficient response to incidents island-wide.[citation needed]

Organization:

HQ 2 PDF
HQ 21 Singapore Infantry Brigade
HQ 22 Singapore Infantry Brigade
HQ 26 Singapore Infantry Brigade
HQ 27 Singapore Infantry Brigade
HQ 29 Singapore Infantry Brigade
HQ 32 Singapore Infantry Brigade
HQ 1 Singapore Infantry Brigade

Reserve battalions usually have many numbers, so I personally think they're active, unless it's a smoke screen.

Singapore Infantry Regiment

1st Battalion - Mandai Hill Camp
2nd Battalion - Amoy Quee Camp
3rd Battalion - Selarang Camp
4th Battalion - Lim Chu Kang Camp I
5th Battalion - Bukit Panjang Camp
6th Battalion - Maju Camp
8th Battalion - Clementi Camp
9th Battalion - Maju Camp

Current status
Today, there are nine full-time battalions, each of which is assigned to an infantry brigade in one of the army's three Infantry Divisions. This is alongside two per brigade of the NS battalions

Interestingly, there's no 7 Bn, SIR.

IMO, 6SIR will move out of PDF and go back under 9 Div again.
As for why PDF needs 2 active Battalions is weird. Would they be 2 standard sized Battalions to rotate for POI duties (rather than the an enlarged size battalion currently) or that one will focus on POI while another for conventional ???

There used to be 7 SIR previously. I think also got 8 SIR last time but converted to guards.

bdique - April 16, 2010 11:50 AM (GMT)
could they be referring to the MI battalion? Even so, I only know the existence of one of them...

AFAIK there is no 43, 44, 45, or 47 SAR either. I wonder who gets to choose the numbers.

Hmmm no official announcement yet? I see it on wikipedia though. I wonder what the new battalions are for, although housing them under 2PDF suggests that they will be for POI. Probably no 7 SIR since 7 SIR is currently 3 GDS (8 SIR was 2 GDS which was closed down so they can use 8 SIR colours again?)

If I had to guess, I would say that this is related to the PES re-classification. We will have more soldiers (PES B2) who are capable of performing POI duties but not more intense cheong swa. Maybe 6 SIR will go to 9 DIV to make it on par with the other divisions in terms of active infantry battalions.

this is just a guess, but could it be motorised SIRs for the terrex carrier?

When i was about to ORD, 2PDF was under going change.

COL Lam, Commander CDO Formation and SOTF assumed the appointment of Commander 2PDF Command and IDTF

Wonder what changes he gonna bring into 2PDF, my unit.. Probably he'll be the first Commando BG?

The changing of the SOTF head is too fast.

Col Chiang looks really familiar, but I can't place him.

Has anyone else ran into him previously?

Nope...the first CDO BG is going to be Col Yeo See Peng, Current 6 Div Comd..my previous CO.

In fact, if you really want to count the first Cdo BG but he was a converted Cdo....is Philip Lim but not sure where he is now.
