Title: Excercise Bersama Shield 2010

xtemujin - May 4, 2010 04:45 PM (GMT)
I was doing a model photoshoot at the Southern island of Singapore on Sunday and saw a few RSAF F5S tigers and F16s.

Only managed to get one photo.

Excercise Bersama Shield 2010

Six F/A-18s from 75 Squadron regularly take to the sky to join the Air Forces of Malaysia, Singapore, New Zealand and the UK in Exercise Bersama Shield 10.

Exercise Bersama Shield has challenged the personnel of 75 Squadron to conduct a joint military operation with regional powers.

More than 59 military aircraft, 19 warships and 2500 personnel are participating in this annual exercise which is being conducted by the Five Power Defence Arrangement (FPDA) over the Malaysian peninsula and the South China Sea from 26 April to 7 May.

The exercise has challenged the F/A-18 pilots to test their skills and the technologies of their F/A-18 aircraft against dissimilar aircraft types and tactics operated by FPDA member nations.

75 Squadron, which is based at RAAF Base Tindal in the Northern Territory, has a long affiliation with Butterworth Air Base where it was based from 1966 to 1988.

Model shoot.. Nice.. :D

Oh no wonder yesterday night it was unusually noisy with lots of jet flying activity..

FIVE-TWO - May 5, 2010 02:48 AM (GMT)
so dun have to pay hah? good because I think either the models don't know the basics about posing or the organiser are not even trying to help the photogs with the lighting.

Airspace Closure Kuala Lumpur and Singapore Firs Exercise BERSAMA Shield 10 280001UTC April To 061100UTC May 2010

Oh BTW, when I shared this link in a MY forum last month, one anti-SG MYsian forumer jokingly thought we are invading MY's airspace & sea space.. LOL!! Then I gave him a basic explanation that even Primary School kids can understand.. Plus, lasered into his head that in the event of a crisis in MY, we are the closest neighbour who could provide immediate assistance to MY than NZ, Aussie & UK (in FPDA) which are further away.. :P

By the way, the aircrafts were very loud 2 nights back. I thought that they flew at pretty low altitude. The flying didn't stop until 9+. Seems like a major exercise. Did our Eagles take part?

He didn't counter after I explained the primary purpose is to let the various parties know of the various locations to be used for the joint exercises so that the various parties that usually transit through those areas can stay away &/or plan their necessary alternative routes so that their respective daily business routine will not be disrupted.. Told him that the joint exercises help to strengthen cooperation among our two territories & minimise/eliminate distrust..

He only asked since some of the airspace is near the Natunas, is Indonesia informed of the exercise as well.. In response, told him it is basic courtesy to do so even though the other party is not involved..

Usually I would use these examples of joint exercises (many MY forumers did not know that their military has joint exercises with ours) to minimise some SG bashing elements or misconceptions they might have with SG in the MY forum that I frequent so that discussions would not be one-sided, thus allowing other forumers in there to quickly gained my acceptance (I became good friends with some of them either in FB or MSN & even met some of them in person).. This is just like how many of us have gained acceptance of our quality MY MN forumers like Dzirhan, ggk in this forum.. I have a MY friend who asked me a couple of times to register in another MY military forum so that the discussions in the "SAF thread" in there would not be one-sided, but I couldn't commit the time..
