I need some help here. I am looking for the war documentary for the Japanese occupation of Singapore. I am wandering if there is any dvd that is available for sale in Singapore.

Personally i don't know of such DVD but you can check the National Archives

1 Canning Rise, Singapore 179868
Tel: (65) 6332 7973 (general enquiries)
(65) 6332 7909 (reference enquiries)
Fax: (65) 6339 3583

I've personally viewed a fair bit of rare occupation footages there

"Scarred by history - end of empire" is probably available on amazon.

Don't think the "asia at war" series is out on DVD yet though shown on history channel.

If you search the libraries, there's "success stories" which covers LKY's personal experience in the occupation. "Interacting with our world." which is available at LKC library only and several others in differing languages.

Can search at its website here: www.nlb.gov.sg

using key words like "japanese occupation singapore" or "sook ching massacre" etc. The results for vids are reflected in purple as videodisc/video etc. Can watch free at nlb but not for sale.

Thank for the info. I was down at the National Archive to look for it. They have load of information, but it will take load of time to look up. The DVD is meant to be a gift for an oversea friend. He wanted it in DVD format.

Point to note. DVD got region code.

Budget willing, I would recommend BBC's world at war rather than something on the sg occupation.

There is a video store at Midpoint Orchard (next to the demolished Emerald opp somerset MRT should be B1 or 1st floor) which has a good selection of war documentaries (but slightly pricey). Not sure whether they're still there since I was there a few months back. You might want to take a look.
