Title: Aerial exercises
Description: Involving the RSAF
Viper52 - July 8, 2010 10:55 AM (GMT)
A new thread to accompany the Naval Exercises thread.
To kick things off,
PACAF F-15s are in PLA for Commando Sling 10-3
kotay - July 8, 2010 12:02 PM (GMT)
So that's what it was.
I was entering KPE from the Sims Way entrance, yesterday, when I saw 2 x F-15s doing a tight bank to line up their approach to PLAB.
Nearly rear-ended another car because I was too busy rubber necking :)
Beautiful birds!

Reports beginning to filter in of RSAF/RTAF movements into Darwin for Ex Pitch Black.
So far we've got an RSAF C-130 and KC-135, and RTAF A310 and at least 2 F-16s.

6 RSAF F-16C/Ds have just flown into Darwin from Amberley. Apparently they have been at Amberley since early July for some unknown reason. DACT with the RAAF SuperBugs?

I won't be surprised if its DACT, although just sending 2 airframes seems rather little.
Maybe setting up the basic groundwork for future combined exercises, you know just to make sure their facilities can handle the airframe?

If I remember, Darwin base also has the bloodhounds near its gates (sama with ChongPang).

The 2 F-16s were RTAF, seen at Darwin. Could (Should?) been more, but only 2 were spotted by eyes on the ground.
RSAF had 6 F-16s at Amberley, just deployed to Darwin this afternoon. 1 F-16C and 5 F-16Ds.

Yes that's correct. Been there before? The aircraft museum nearby has a B-52 on display.

Still no sign of our stealth fighters on the ADF's site, even though they've been in Australia since mid-June and arrived at Darwin from Amberley last week.
The exercise officially began today.
weasel1962 - July 19, 2010 06:16 AM (GMT)
Exercise PB is bet 19 Jul to 5 Aug. I think there is a E-2C, KC-135 and C-130 going there as well.
This should be followed by Exercise Kakadu in 16 Aug to 3 Sep.

Multiple Herks from both RSAF and RTAF. RNZAF also sending a Herk.
Kakadu is a maritime Ex with an Air Element. RAN, RSN, RTN and JMSDF will contribute ships.
121 and 145 Sqn took part in 2008 (IIRC) but RSAF appears to be skipping this one. JASDF and RNZAF P-3s will take part in Kakadu with possible French and PNG involvement. It will also be the last multinational exercise for the RAAF Pigs.

Shotgun - July 20, 2010 04:38 AM (GMT)
Saw 4 USAF F-15Cs and 4 F-16Cs a couple of days ago. The first 4 were easy as the Eagles were painted their usual gray tones. Both flights looked like they rejoined in a close spread type of formation. Something that I seldom see RSAF flights do.

Nice pictures. First F-16C looks like it has an ALQ-131 on the centerline station. The F-16D looks like its carrying some targeting pod, probably Litening or Lantirn.

If the Nellis website doesn't list the F-15SGs then it wouldn't have shown up.
Seems like 96-5035 is the Black Widow's flagship. Its interesting how the FMS serial is placed relatively far forward on the spine though.
And yes, thats definitely an ALQ-131.

RSAF Participates in Multilateral Air Combat Exercise in Darwin Posted: 24 Jul 2010, 1200 hours (Time is GMT +8 hours)
The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) is participating in Exercise Pitch Black 2010, a multilateral air combat exercise hosted by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), from 16 Jul to 6 Aug 2010 in Darwin, Australia. The Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) and the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) are also taking part in this year's exercise, which comprises day and night air combat operations and air-to-air refuelling missions.
About 180 personnel, eight F-16C/D fighter jets, an E-2C Airborne Early Warning aircraft and a KC-135R tanker aircraft from the RSAF are participating in the exercise, together with the RAAF's F/A-18s, F-111s and Hawk 127 fighter jets, PC-9/A advanced trainer aircraft, and King Air B350 transport aircraft. The RNZAF is participating with a C-130 transport aircraft and the RTAF, with F-16 fighter jets.
This is the 20th year of Exercise Pitch Black which started as an exercise between the RSAF and RAAF, and later included other air forces in the region. To mark the occasion, Chief of Air Force Major-General Ng Chee Meng is co-hosting a commemorative dinner with his Australian counterpart, Air Marshal Mark Binskin, in Darwin this evening. Since 1990, Exercise Pitch Black has given the RSAF an invaluable opportunity to conduct air operations under realistic training conditions and enhance interoperability with the other participating air forces. The exercise also underscores the good working relationship and professional cooperation between the RSAF and the other exercise participants. |

If you look at the other photos in the ADF Gallery, the pilot of the A/A configured F-16D is wearing DASH.
I assume 632's pilot is wearing HGU-55 because its was tasked as a ground pounder for that mission.

From the CyberPioneer article note that our maritime aircraft is referred to as Fokker-50. Says alot if you can't spell out the designation Fk-50 in the correct form in an official defence article. Note that no issue with CN-235, probably because that is how the aircraft is referred to.

At Pitch Black, the RSAF and RAAF photo teams went out together to take those photographs. RSAF then passed those photos to Mindef.
