How many a/c is there in a SQN in the RSAF?

And please open domain info only....

I understand from many quarters that it is 20 a/c per SQN. Also we seem to purchase a/c in 20s.

But is it really true?

The answer is....It depends.

For example, 111 Sqn operates 4 Hawkeyes, 121 Sqn operates 9 Fokker 50. 150 Sqn has 20 Super Skyhawks in France (the number that was shipped over).

If we check back the news in 2000, 143 Sqn was formed with 10 F-16C/Ds, although it should have increased by now.

It would also depend on aircraft serviceability and other factors, I believe that the RSAF pools its aircraft and those serviceable are flown by crews of different sqns depending on the flying roster, even if the aircraft carry markings from a different unit from the crew. (This from the crew I spoke to at Open Houses)

The RSAF does not purchase it's aircraft in 20s, many of the batches of fighters ranged from 6-20 aircraft

Then how many flights are there in a standard fighter squadron? Say for one of our F 16A/B squadrons used for AD.

I read in an old magazine that USAF fighter squadrons usually operated in flights of fours during Operation: Desert Storm. Does the RSAF follow such an organisation?

I'm no expert here, but the flights or formation taken should depends on the mission at hand.

Strike missions and the size of 'packets' can vary.

But CAPS should go in twos or fours.....then you have the finger two or finger four and other formations if you follow some air combat books.
