Title: Super Puma or Cougar
Description: What is the difference between them?

F-35 - June 23, 2004 11:46 AM (GMT)
What is the difference between a Super Puma or a Cougar? Is there any visible markings differences?

No obvious differences in markings, but there are other external differences I'm not sure I want to discuss.

Has RSAF fitted the FLIR pod to all Super Pumas and Cougars already?

Well, one difference would be the logo on the aircraft.

The puma uses the M engine.
The cougar uses the M1. What's the difference is the power output.

No. Not all aircraft can carry it. Due to weight restrictions and some don't even have the system installed on the a/c.

We don't intend to fit the system on all the a/c. Its not top priority ;)

If you see our SAR aircraft, we have taken out the MPAI and made way for some wire mesh modification... all because of weight restrictions.

Pardon my ignorance, but are the MPAIs the cone shape filters fitted at the air-intakes?

Kopi,

Different logo? Do you mean the sqn logo just behind the pilot's side window?

I was at the press day for the RSAF Open House 2003 a couple of weeks before the actual event, and again at the actual event. The Super Pumas on display were different a/c, both Super Pumas and not Cougars, but one carried 125 Sqn logo but the other had a 126 Sqn logo.

yeah, the logo behind the window.

There are a few ways to tell, one is by the logo but it isn't that accurate because of repainting, then again only 1-2 have had the logo repainted... another way would be the a/c numbers or series.

generally, the one with the 126sqn (personally i find it nicer to look at) are the cougars...

and the ugly looking logos are the pumas.

of course now its all mix and match ever since 126 went to australia.
