Honestly, the market is too small to justify doing local military subjects. There are a number of Singaporeans doing decals for RSAF subjects like the A-4s, F-5s and F-16s, but if just doing RSAF subjects alone, sales will not justify a 500-1000 decal sheet print run (printing any less will result in extremely high cost per sheet)

Hi,

Beside the MOQ issue, anyone has brought it ?
Any comments will be much appreciated.

With PS and a conventional Hi-Res printer... you can get pretty decent decals printed with water resistant Laser/InkJet decal or sticker paper. Well, at least thats what i did if i wanted a customised RSAF model. Nowadays... i will probably settle for any die-cast or ready-made RSAF models in the AF museum.

P.S. --> Why not link your new avatar directly to ImageShack or PhotoBucket instead of using the forum's Public Upload Folder... It's a little crop and extremly distorted.

These ways you've mentioned have been tried by foriegn modelers and some locals I know. Problem is they come with their own issues, such as inability to print whites/greys, bleed-through (models original camo colour shows through the decal) and colour registration. Had a friend who took around 20 tries before he got a good decal sheet for a Tiger Airways A320.

PS. Was fooling around with my Avatar a bit, looks fine now to. Thanks!

Someone of your status would have probably heard of this... But what the heck, just re-occured to me... heres some of our local customised decals and resins distributors and modellers. Not that i know of any who specialise in customised decals and resins for SAF armoured fighting vehicles... maybe you can approach Scale Nutz for a business partnership... LoL...

(Dead...???)

I’ve just spoken with the guys of Horizon Modeltech recently, and have been assured that their news of their demise is very much exaggerated. They’ve put future projects on hold at the moment, but are planning on taking a different tack to their approach soon (about a year’s time I’ve been told due to work and other personal commitments). According to them, if they’re dead, why continue spending money on the website? (Good point, that)

Anyway, they’ve also told me regarding what I just mentioned about economies of scale for SAF/RSAF decals, they’ve managed to turn a small profit from their Skyhawk sheet, but it took quite some time, and the market was not really that big for RSAF decals. Important lessons were learnt from their experience, and they will put it to use soon

What I know is that their plans will not include so much SAF/RSAF subjects, although they will continue to put out SAF/RSAF subjects from time to time.

Thanks for the links, probably I miss it, because they are more focus on airforce,
will include that into the shop_sg section.

will try that in the near future..just brought a canon PIXMA iP4000R, also read that, after printing on decal paper, need to spray a layer of lacquer (special order) kinda troublesome.

Mine pleasure... It's been a while (Two Years Actually) since i last had a model completed... so anyway heres a few tips and suggestions from what i can remember... Set your printer settings to "Photo Paper - Glossy/High Gloss" or something similar and at the highest resolution possible.

Unless you are using a laser printer or some other forms of printer which does not relies in InkJet technology... the "Decal Film Coating Or Final Abrasive Spray" will be required as InkJet is extremly water-soluble. And as mentioned by Viper52... due to the transparencies of InkJet, the printed decals can only be applied on areas with a consistent background color of either white or grey. Alternatively, pure white decal paper which requires a near-perfect outline trimmings are available in the market.

Its not always easy to succed on the very first print-out... so no harm conducting a few experiments to get the feel-of-it. Tricky parts would be the printing and coating sections, but with experience the decals would probably turn out just fine. Good Luck...

PS... Advisable to print the decals over a piece of pre-printed white paper with exactly the same printed decals position (Tape Them Together).

Speaking of SAF decals, frankly decals of our Army tanks and vehicles will be well suited to printing using laser/inkjet/dry ink printers. Licence plate need just black with clear silouettes for the numbers (Paint white rectangle before placing the decal). Fancy unit/formation markings are rarely (if ever) seen on SAF's AFVs which simplifies things.

Anyone tried to build an SAF AMX-13 or M-113? We've seen lots of RSAF models (by comparison), an SAF tank model would be nice for a change!

I found this abt Israeli Sho't as used by the IDF in 1967 and through to 1973.

Israeli modified Centurion (SHO'T) from Accurate Armour
