This morning, viper52, owd33(probably laughing behind his screen right now ) and me went on a typhoon hunting trip somwhere off PLAB to catch the storm birds for the first time seen outside Europe. Both was seen landing with 2 F-5S after a sortie.

I've got a few pics to share with everyone. Comments?

Ho-la! Excellente Senor!

Best pics of the Triplex deployment so far. (The A2A shots on the RAF homepage excepted).

Pity the weather was less than perfect. But thats hardly your fault

Great pictures, good clarity even in extreme condition, thank for sharing! :)

Btw , is that ACMI under the wings?

eurofighter - July 12, 2004 11:33 AM (GMT)
Can anyone help me with the blurry problem? Once i crop it, it will be this blur. If i dun crop it, it is quite tiny.

Joe Black - July 12, 2004 11:38 AM (GMT)
You can try and use PaintShop Pro to resize the image. It is easy to use and almost as good as Photoshop ;)

Viper52 - July 12, 2004 11:46 AM (GMT)
eurofighter,

take the raw image of your camera, resize your pic to 1024 by 768 pixels. Then crop the image to 800 by 600 pixels. Save as a higher quality file, bigger size but better quality

Paint shop pro or Photoshop should do the trick. Or send me the raw images off your camera and I can work on it for you.

Looks like ASRAAM training rounds.

Have you guys ever wonder why EDAS added a HUD to the back seat instead of the HUD repeater like the D Viper? What is the trainer/WSO going to see thru the HUD? I could never figure out what is the purpose....

Viper52 - July 12, 2004 03:14 PM (GMT)
To project HUD symbology onto the rear seat to provide essential data. Important for WSO and IPs.

Not seen the display from the HUD repeater of the F-16D, but I think projecting the symbology and data is more important than displaying the actual, raw image of the sky in front of the pilot.

I like the lwings of the eurofighter. The leading edges are like two feet above the bottom of the intakes but the rear ends are flushed with the bottom of the fuselage. Beautiful.

The cockpit looks roomy, I wonder would the 1.9m height limit for future pilots be changed...

cavsg - July 13, 2004 06:10 AM (GMT)
the backseater is a RAF pilot from the flying gloves he's wearing.

cavsg - July 13, 2004 11:29 AM (GMT)

i was tempted to buy one for my own use but its not nomex which means its not fire resistant.

Call me "hiao" but the twin-seater Rafale sure looks more streamlined and "built" for the task as opposed to looking more like a trainer / having an oversized canopy grafted on.... :D

The Rafale sure looks cool and mean.....

Anyone got pics of the Rafale in SG? Non-Asian Aerospace 2004 unergoing trials in SG, that is.....http://www.pirate.per.sg/gallery/albums/AA...4_006.sized.jpg]

I gotta agree! In terms of being sleek and sexy, the Rafale ranks right up there with other aviation classics like the Hunter and F-14 IMO. I took a photo of the Rafale B back in AA2000 in a hard right bank soon after taking off from Runway 02R for its display segment, and that photo really shows off her lines.

Unfortunately, yours truly was starting a new job during the Rafale/F-15 trials, so was unable to go down then. And I didn't know they had Saturday trials till too late. :(

True....I especially liked the Rafale M version....the thicker undercarriage suggests a very macho plane that can take lots of punishment / strain.....

Hope you do well in you new job. It's always tough switching jobs, whatever it may be.....

:o

Please remove the direct links to those photos. They are from my gallery and I got permission from the photographers to put them there, I don't think they will be happy if you just link them here and leave out the copyrights and credits to them. Especially when I know Vector Grafix personally. He will not be please. I don't wish to incur their wrath.

Hi,
It's a press release picture from BAE Systems. It's fine to leave it alone.

Sorry I was away on course in the US, so didn't get to see your PM until now.

FT - Two Go Wrong

Two go wrong
By Clay Harris (FT)
Published: July 29 2004 5:00 | Last Updated: July 29 2004 5:00

In its indefatigable effort to sell the Eurofighter, BAE Systems was able to get two of the new jets owned by the RAF flown to Singapore, where the government is evaluating the aircraft in competition with Boeing's F-15 and Dassault's Rafale.

The visit - the longest yet made by the aircraft and its first outside of Europe - was, by most accounts, a triumph. And the contest is not insignificant: a £1bn contract for 20 jets awaits the winner. Victory would be a huge coup for BAE, which is running the Singapore competition for the four-company Eurofighter consortium.

But a funny thing happened on the way back home. The fighters and their crew were supposed to return to their home base at BAE's facility in Warton tomorrow but problems with the RAF's ageing fleet of air-to-air refuelling tankers meant the jets did not have sufficient fuel to make it all the way back. The RAF said their return is now likely to be delayed until next week.

It might be an embarrassment for the RAF, which is keen to promote the capabilities of the much-maligned fighter, but there was something of a silver lining for EADS, the Franco-German aerospace group.

It has been locked in occasionally vituperative negotiations with the Ministry of Defence over a new fleet of A330 tankers. After stranding the RAF's prized fighters, tanker commanders might just have a new incentive to get the A330s under contract.

cavsg - July 31, 2004 08:57 AM (GMT)
interesting, they left on the 19th and still not back yet. Suppose to rush back due to lack of a/c as the rest are supporting Farnborough.
